Radiation Safety in the Operating Room is a continuing education course for radiologic technologists that covers the radiation safety techniques that are currently used in the operating room when ionizing radiation is needed. While intraoperative imaging is especially important in minimally invasive operations, radiation exposure during these procedures continues to be a major source of concern for patients, surgeons, and other staff in the operating room. This course highlights radiation measurements and the occupational exposure guidelines, as well as the dangers and risks related to radiation exposure. It also explains the core concepts of radiation protection and describes the personal radiation measurement devices and protective apparel that should be available and properly used by the concerned operating room staff.

Radiation Safety in the Operating Room is a specialty course designed for RTs in operating theaters, and is not particularly suited for technologists who do not perform this role.
