CT of the Head and Neck

In the CT scan of the head and neck course, you will gain an understanding of computed tomography scanning (CT) imaging for the head and neck. You will first learn about the role of the X-ray tube and detectors in CT scanning procedures, along with data acquisition, reconstruction, and post-processing. You will explore key imaging parameters like kVp, mAs, pitch, slice thickness, and imaging planes used in CT, and learn how changing these parameters impacts both patient dose and image quality. At the end of the course, you will be able to differentiate between various acquisition methods (such as axial, helical, volumetric, and dual- energy) and how advanced reconstruction and 3D rendering improve visualization.

This course will also teach you how to recognize and avoid common artifacts, evaluate image quality, and apply informatics tools like PACS and DICOM. This computed tomography course covers CT protocols for the brain, sinuses, angiography of the head and neck, and soft tissue studies. You will explore normal anatomy, landmarks, and common pathologies such as stroke, hematoma, sinus disease, aneurysms, and thyroid disorders. By completing this computed tomography course, you will gain the knowledge and confidence to optimize protocols, interpret images effectively, and improve patient care in head and neck CT imaging.
