This course on Thumb MRI offers technologists a concise guide to imaging the thumb region, covering indications for thumb MRIs, patient preparation, coil selection for mri thumb planning, and imaging protocols. Indications include assessing soft tissue and bony abnormalities such as ligament and tendon injuries, fractures, joint disorders, and tumors.

Proper patient preparation and planning for thumb MRI involves obtaining a patient history, ensuring metal-free attire, and positioning the patient comfortably. Participants will learn about coil selection, such as dedicated small joint coils or flexible coils, and optimal coil placement around the thumb for high-resolution imaging. We will also cover MRI thumb planning of the appropriate FOV, slice orientations, and parameters. The MRI of the Thumb course also features a selection of MR images showcasing common thumb pathologies for hands-on practice in the identification of pathologies.
