Video Title

Treatment Sites in the Extremities, Skin Cancer, and Special Procedures is a continuing education course for radiation therapists that provides advanced radiation therapy training for stereotactic and conventional irradiation as it relates to the total body, skin, palliative, oncologic emergencies, and extremities. More specifically, this course contains the radiotherapy to the total body using blocs or open, radiotherapy to the skin in case of single or multiple lesions or for electron total body skin, radiotherapy for palliation and oncologic emergencies, and radiotherapy for body extremities. It covers the advantages and disadvantages of different radiation treatment techniques, including external beam, 3D conformal, IMRT, and stereotactic radiotherapy and radiosurgery, and addresses the symptoms associated with malignant cancers related to each organ.

This course also details the responsibilities of each member of the healthcare team, including the radiation therapist, radiation oncologist, nurse, and physicist. In addition, the course covers clinical components, namely the treatment procedure in its entirety, including possible patient positions, accessories, and position verification options for each treatment site. Finally, this course provides training in how to effectively advocate for patients, how to relay patient side effects, and how to work out possible treatments with other members of the healthcare team to minimize and limit these side effects.
